Fungi are common in all environments and are often associated with decomposition of dead material. This is true also in fish, where fungus can grow after some other pathogen has injured or killed the host. Fish with fungal infections are a sign of unhealthy conditions or high levels of some other pathogen, that is causing inuries to the fish skin or scales. Several other groups of organisms (microsporidians, dermocystidium) are listed here under Fungi, though their exact classifications are presently being researched. |
